What doesn't Amazon sell? toilet paper, tampons, tooth paste, and it is worth 80 billion, when it should be worth 1 billion. It is an uninspired discounter, like online-Walmart.
On Amazon you can buy used comic books, used read softcover novels, used 10 year old PaperMate pens, it is like a giant flea market.
They need sales and prestige to keep up their scam.
High valuations should belong to high tech companies. Amazon says the Kindle is their heart, when it represents less than 0.1% of its sales.
On Amazon they sell fertilizer made from dung.
Apple is instead a high tech company. It makes money by selling high advanced technology.
Unlike Amazon, which has no research and development budget (how much research do you need to carry Q-tips and tampons?), Apple is not a scam. It is what it says it ism a high tech edge company. Amazon says the same, but it is sad flea market selling dirty used bird feeders.

As noted by the Los Angeles Times (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/04/price-war-amazon-launches-69-cent-mp3-store-for-top-selling-tunes.html), Amazon has taken Apple's iTunes Store head-on in the digital music marketplace with its new feature of 69-cent on popular new release tracks. The new, lower price marks a substantial discount from iTunes, which typically charges $1.29 for current hits. The report notes that Amazon has been stuck at about 10% of the digital music download market for several years, finding itself unable to eat further into Apple's dominant position with iTunes.
Apple initially used a standard $0.99 price point for iTunes Store music content, but shifted to a tiered pricing model (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/04/07/itunes-variable-pricing-live-more-countries-supported/) in April with much of the store's content remaining at the original $0.99 price point but certain popular content bumped up to $1.29 while older back catalog material in some cases dropped to $0.69. Amazon and Wal-Mart quickly followed suit (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/04/08/amazon-and-wal-mart-mp3-stores-adopt-variable-pricing/) with their own tiered pricing models.
Apple's shift to tiered pricing was made at the request of major record labels seeking more control over content pricing and was part of the negotiations that led Apple to be able to offer its entire iTunes Store music catalog free of digital rights management (DRM) restrictions.

The ticker is AAPL, and it's traded on Nasdaq, not NYSE.
Actually Nasdaq is an index, not a trading cite. The NYSE is an exchange (much like one we'd find in London, Tokyo, etc). What Apple is not listed under is the Dow 30 (commonly referred to only as "the Dow" or "Dow Jones Industrial Average"), which lists the 30 largest companies of the US based on industry and importance (current ones include WalMart, GE, CitiGroup, etc).

No I've been waiting for VM to get their butt in gear to launch Workstation. Parallels was simply a work around, a crappy one at that, until I could get VMWare. There is simply no way in heck I'm spending $80 on a piece of software that can crash my system. And before someone tells me to use Bootcamp. Yah right. Advanced Power Management does not work right under Bootcamp even with the latest version. When Parallels starts making a product that
1. Doesn't crash\freeze my system
2. Doesn't require me to force quite the application once every couple of weeks because the progress bar when I'm suspending a session has stalled.
3. Doesn't have sharing between folders that takes a good 5 seconds to parse the files and doesn't drop a file mapping in your file explorer.
4. Doesn't have the world's crappiest networking passthrough. I can't count how many times I've gone from one network to another to another and had it get confused telling me I might have limited network connectivity. So I need to repair the connection.
Parallels sucks but until now its been the only REAL game in town. Boo hoo I'm not paying for an app that IMHO is half baked to begin with. At least I'm not outright going in search of a seral number and pirating the thing. Again its a tide me over until VM gets their butt in gear and releases this thing.
Dude, your doing something totally wrong. I've got Parallels running a 1.83ghz , 1gb MacBook and its pretty much instant at everything! Never hung on me every, suspending takes only a few seconds, likewise from resume. Sharing of files is instant, well no differenace than working on it nativly.
I have XP SP2, Office Sage, Visio, Project, Money and Autoroute all running and never have any probs.
Your doing somat wrong mate.

In response to the ebay comment, why are they seemingly so dumb? I wanted to buy a new canon lens recently and i always buy my photography equipment from B&H (probably the most reputable place on the planet) but first i looked on ebay to see if i could get a used one for a lot less. None of the auctions went for significantly less than new at B&H (especially when you factor in shipping) and at least one auction ended of about $30 more than retail. I dont get it! Don't people do ANY research?

Looks ugly and much like a photo shopped iPod touch. Plus the bottom is to thin to support the 30pin as the iPod touch is just about big enough and losing half it's depth would be to narrow. Plus getting screen plus a5 plus screen into that form factor doesn't seem possible oh and don't forget a decent battery.

The usual pattern is to get some small teaser for free ... like I got hooked on the free dropbox and now pay for the 100GB plan because I love it so much
Yeah, a free period or small amount free would be nice in order to find out if it's something you'll continue to use after the first few weeks. Most of the apps I download only keep their flavor about 5 days. I agree that Dropbox is the bomb though. It's iDisk done right - and free to boot!

I've just downloaded the update on mymiPhone and iPad and i noticed in the General Setings now there is a multitouch gestures button to enable this function. It suports 4 fingers up to show the app switcher, 4 fingers to the sides to switch apps and 5 fingers to the centre to go to the home screen.
It works great!
Can anyone else confirm this? How about on iPad?

But I stand by Apple for now, that they do have some "bigger" features they just aren't showing us....
What's the next logical step in a computer interface? I used to say "Computer, show me the money" to open Quicken back in pre-OS X days. More of a gimmick than anything else, but imagine if the Finder and maybe even other apps became "speakable."
Me: "Check mail"
Computer: "You have nine new messages. Would you like me to read them?"
Me: "No, thanks."
(clicks on an email, reads message)
Me: "Reply to this message"
Computer: "Type or speak?
Me: "Type"
type-type-type
Me: "Computer, I'd like to add a photo of the kids to this email."
Computer: "iphoto has 6,813 pictures of the kids, which one would you like?"
Me: "One from the birthday party last week."
Computer: (a strip from iphoto appears) "Here are 23 from last week. I've highlighted the one where your wife fixed the red eye. Is that the one you want?"
Me: "Yes, that will be fine."
Computer adds the picture to stationery in the email, other pictures go away.
Me: "Send the email"
Me: "...and order me a pizza."
This kind of thing can't be too far off. A 75 mhz Performa could do it in a rudimentary way. Imagine what a modern Mac may be able to do. "Speakeasy" has a nice ring to it.

Firstly, I'd be very surprised if this was Gold Master considering how early it is and I was expecting there to be a few UI updates prior to its release given that the Leopard look is quite old now.
But now they've given us this, a hark back to the whole brushed metal fiasco of early Mac OS X, where there was a mixture of ghastly brushed metal and aqua (yes and that brushed metal Finder ;)). The original reasoning behind the brushed metal was that it was supposed to be reserved for things like iTunes, where certain apps were supposed to resemble their physical counterparts (sound familiar?) but then Apple had to keep amending the UI Interface rules to cover off its many own violations!
Something tells me we're not done yet. Expect Address Book to be the next to 'go leather'. And I wouldn't be surprised if that was it.
From what I remember, Leopard looked like Tiger did for most of its development, before a release just prior to Gold Master made everything the dark grey gradient as you see today. It wouldn't surprise me if the end Lion product looks nothing like the Leopard/Snow Leopard look that you see right now.
When Steve said he wanted to see more of the iPad on Mac OS X, at least we now know he wasn't kidding ;)

No, it's not a war; the only people who consider it a war are the people who will do anything to prove Apple isn't an innovative and in many ways cutting edge company.
Funny how its always the other .
Competition? Yes. Competition is good. But if you really look, the majority of Android phones available on the open market sell for less than $100 and most of those sell for less than $50.
Thats complete BS.

Well if it's a platform war, Android is getting seriously spanked by iOS. The iOS platform is holding its own in smartphones and still growing in market share and in dedicated media players, portable media players, and tablets, it isn't even a contest. The iPad, Apple TV, iPod Touch and all the rest of the products on the iOS platform are seriously spanking the crap out of the Android alternatives.
That's one of the reasons why the big developers concentrate more on the iOS platform than Android.
Now did that register or are you just in denial?
The only people who lump in tablets and PMPs into the platform are apple lovers who are in denial. Everyone else separates them by device. Smartphones are compared to smartphones. Tablets to tablets, etc.

Apple really really needs to get on this... As far as some Script Kiddie wanting to make a name for themself the mass of mac users would need to be higher. There are still currently not enough mac users to warrent such acts, you would not get notice. I feel that a lot of coders find holes in XP because then they can exploit big business, were as macs are more often than not home computers. If apple its athe big 10% mark this will all change.
