^^^ Nice purchase! Boring, for sure... but I definitely need new tires on my '06 Grand Prix. I'm still on the factory Hancocks. But, I plan on getting a new car in the summer, and don't feel like spending the ~$500 to replace them for just a few months of use.

They have GOT to fix the battery drain issue. It started with 4.3 and was NOT fixed with 4.3.1.

How are they different? They are both round with a 3D look and have a triangle with the same alignment and angles in the middle. They even perform the same function, to start playback of media content. Are you really going to nitpick about the colors? That's not different enough, Apple should definetely sue.

Wow, 1.61 million Macs, what a quarter. Way to go Apple.
Back on October 10, Switch To A Mac predicted that Apple would sell 1.64 million Macs during the quarter. That was a very close prediction.
Analysts were expecting only 1.47 million Macs.

Thanks for the chart...I always like to see stuff like this. But your 3Q and 4Q numbers for 2003 and 2004 looked a bit fishy, so I looked into it and made the corrections below for 2004. Don't know if there are any other errors.
2000 was right after the original iMacs were released, wasn't it? It's interesting that it has taken five or so years to reach the same numbers again. Then again, there were a couple times when the only improvement to the PowerMacs was a 100-300 MHz G4 speed bump... :rolleyes:
I remember Apple's colossal market share in the early to mid 1980s, back then it was pretty much given that developers had to make a DOS/Windows and MacOS version of their programs. I think the Universal Binary was brilliant - it keeps G3/G4/G5 users in the loop while moving OS X compatible software forward. Hopefully as more developers take note of Apple's slowly growing market share (come on 5%!) everyone will experience more cross-platform goodness.:D

Maybe they're testing this so that when AT&T and T-Mo combine, future iPhones will be able to use the T-Mobile 3G bands, even though the phone would still be exclusive to AT&T (and of course, Verizon).
Or maybe the delay for the iPhone 5 is support for all major US carriers? That would be nice for you Americans!

They're behind Gateway in number of units shipped. Gateway produces and ships more units than Apple.

We Mac consumers cannot go to the DOJ and claim we have no alternatives (just because your alternatives suck doesn't mean you don't have them.) So a friend told me there was a gathering in Boston Common a few miles away. I didn't leave my house until almost 2AM so I was a bit late but I stuck around until the police got the crowd to disperse. I only had my on camera flash and there is NO LIGHT there so I did what I could.

Ok a couple of things
Assume Apple and Amazon have the same deals with the record labels which is most likely the case.
Sure, they both have a deal that lets the labels set the prices. And the labels are underselling their digital copies on Amazon.
It is actually more likely they don't have the same deal. MP3 like Kindle files are loss leaders for Amazon. They are there and cheap to draw folks to the website where they will buy other more profitable things. That can only be done if Amazon has price control.
That they are being used that way has gotten the public ire of the publishers and soon the labels will probably start talking smack as well

With all the improvements made to Amazon MP3 lately, there really is NO reason to buy music from the iTunes store anymore. None.

First we are seeing pro solutions, then we'll see TB adapters for USB3 pop up... then as TB fitted computers reach a large enough number (this fall?), we'll see manufacturers adding support to ext enclosures and drives.

To be fair, the brushed metal interface first debuted in 1999 with Quicktime 4.0. Compared to the horrendous user interfaces of the time period, that looks amazing. It is sad though that it took them until leopard to get rid of it...
It's not the brush metal that was bad. It was the Volume Dial on the left side to appear like a dial on a device. To change the volume was difficult.

Steve Jobs knew about this in January... this says a lot about his vision. I'm confident that he is already well-prepared for this and has something up his sleeve to counter it.

You went up in arms about the itunes logo, but when a mockup is truly horrible, you praise it? This is about the worst mockup i've ever seen.
Apple, please never ever put that awful backing on the iphone. ever.
You hip generation might like holes in your jeans and scratches on your phone, but I just think it's stupid. :p
Maybe they're afraid of yet again having to face the embarassment of having first bashed a design and said it looks like a cheap chinese knock-off and then doing a 180 degree turn when it turns out it's Apples own design, it's a precautionary measure.
(For the record, I never liked the 3G/3GS design, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the leaked iP4 images and loved it when it turned out to be the actual thing, and if this ugly abomination turns out to be an actual Apple product I loose all respect for Apple)
